TYRELL HATTON SOUNDS ALARMS ON PGA-PIF NEGOTIATIONS, SAYS LIV PLAYERS "DESERVE" TO BE IN THE MAJORS
The ongoing season has been nothing short of exceptional for Tyrell Hatton. After joining the Saudi-backed LIV Golf ahead of the 2024 season, Hatton experienced his first win on tour at LIV Golf Nashville. He scored 65-64-65 to secure this win and followed it up with a third-place finish at LIV Golf Andalucía.
While Hatton's performances have earned him praise and a spot in one Major championship next season, Hatton said that he hopes there are a certain number of spots available for LIV Golfers soon.
LIV players are technically eligible for majors, but no official pathway has been created for them to qualify through LIV performances. Ahead of the LIV Golf UK, Hatton expressed concern on the matter and said:
"I know that the guys at LIV are trying to figure it out with the powers that be in golf. I think everyone in the golf world can agree that there are enough fantastic players on LIV that you'd like to see them in fields at majors. Currently, obviously they go off the world ranking system. I think, from a players perspective, I hope that something can be worked out where if it goes into 2025 there's X amount of spots that LIV receive to play in majors."
Hatton also added:
"Just with the quality of fields that we have, I don't see how people could argue that those guys wouldn't be deserving of a spot in those tournaments."
Hatton's comments come at a time when PGA and PIF are negotiating a merger. While a framework was agreed last year, there haven't been significant developments leading towards a merger.
