13-12 - RANGERS REBOUND TO RECLAIM AL WEST LEAD WITH 5-1 WIN OVER MARINERS

The Texas Rangers scored five runs while the Seattle Mariners scored one run.

The Rangers scored three runs in the fourth inning of the second game of their series against Oakland back on April 10 and then didn’t score another run at home spanning two weeks. Of course, they were on the road for all but two of that of that but the string of zeros included two consecutive shutouts at The Shed and three more empty frames to begin tonight’s game.

It wasn’t until Adolis Garcia launched one that just scraped over Julio Rodriguez’s glove in center field that Texas finally scored a run in front of the home crowd after 25 scoreless innings.

The Rangers trailed 1-0 at the time of Garcia’s dinger, putting them in danger of dropping below .500 for the first time on the year which would have put them even further behind Seattle and given the Mariners a chance to sweep Texas at home, something that happened only twice last season.

But another shutout wasn’t to be as El Bombi opened the floodgates a bit with Evan Carter following him with his own solo home run to put Texas up 2-1. The Rangers would then score two more in the sixth and another in the seventh, a veritable wealth of runs.

Texas also got 4 13 shutout innings from bullpen, including 1 13 scoreless from a returning Jonathan Hernandez in relief of starter Jon Gray and two innings and four Ks from David Robertson.

Scoring runs and getting solid pitching, it turns out, is a good way to end up in the win column.

Player of the Game: The Rangers were able to get things going tonight thanks in part to their heralded rookies breaking through. Wyatt Langford had three hits on the evening and Carter followed his home run with a triple that drove in an insurance run.

Up Next: The rubber match finale between the Rangers and M’s will be also be for the lead in the West after this three game set. LHP Andrew Heaney will make the start for Texas opposite RHP Luis Castillo for Seattle.

Thursday’s matinee first pitch from The Shed is set for 1:35 pm CT and will be aired on BS Southwest.
