BREWERS MINOR LEAGUE ROUNDUP: WEEK 4

Each week, I’ll be bringing you a roundup of the Brewers minor league affiliates, including score updates, key players, and more. Here is the week four roundup.

Triple-A Nashville

The Sounds went 4-2 against the division-leading Omaha Storm Chasers (12-9) to improve to 11-10 on the season, now two games behind the Iowa Cubs (13-8) for the International League West lead.

Tyler Black had a big week offensively, collecting two homers, two triples, and eight RBIs in five games for Nashville. Andruw Monasterio also had a strong week before being recalled to the Brewers, hitting .417/.467/.583 with five hits and three RBIs in three games. Isaac Collins and Brewer Hicklen tied Black for the team lead with seven hits each. As a team, the Sounds hit .242/.354/.414 with five homers and 36 runs scored.

Chad Patrick had the best start of the week for the Sounds, totaling six innings of one-run ball and striking out four. Nolan Blackwood led the team with six strikeouts in 4 ⅓ innings out of the bullpen, while Rob Zastryzny pitched 2 ⅓ perfect innings across three appearances with four strikeouts. As a team, the pitching staff finished the week with a 4.25 ERA, striking out 53 across 55 innings.

The Sounds head to Louisville this week to take on the Bats (9-12) for the first time this year.

Double-A Biloxi

The Shuckers had a strong week against the Chattanooga Lookouts (4-10), winning five of six to improve to 10-5, two games ahead of Montgomery in the Southern League South.

After a strong start to his season with High-A Wisconsin, Mike Boeve was sent to Biloxi this week. Though he didn’t record a hit for the Shuckers, he did collect two walks in seven at-bats. Freddy Zamora and Noah Campbell led the Shuckers with seven hits each, as Zamora added a homer and four RBIs to hit .350/.417/.550. The Shuckers hit .255/.377/.359 as a team, with two homers and 28 runs scored.

Though he struggled in the series finale, Nate Peterson had a strong start to open the series, spanning six innings and allowing one run with six strikeouts. TJ Shook went five innings and allowed no runs on two hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. The pitching staff led the league with a 2.67 ERA this week, striking out 66 batters in 54 innings.

The Shuckers now head back to the road for two weeks, as they head to Pensacola to take on the Blue Wahoos (6-9) before traveling to Tennessee.

High-A Wisconsin

Wisconsin went 4-2 for the second straight week, winning the series over the Cedar Rapids Kernels (6-8). The Timber Rattlers are now one game back of the Quad Cities River Bandits (11-4) in the division.

Luke Adams hit another homer for the Rattlers, while Matthew Wood raked, collecting six RBIs and hitting .462/.500/.769 with a homer. Gregory Barrios led the team with 13 hits in just 18 at-bats, including six doubles for a .722/.762/1.056 slash line. Luis Lara added seven hits and seven RBIs of his own, also stealing five bags. As a team, Wisconsin hit .306/.382/.419 with two homers and 41 runs scored.

On the mound, Mark Manfredi struck out eight batters and allowed just one hit in four innings of relief. Brett Wichrowski collected five strikeouts in four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk. Edwin Jimenez pitched five scoreless innings to get the win in his start, striking out four. As a staff, the Rattlers had a 4.86 ERA, striking out 47 in 50 innings.

The Rattlers head back on the road to take on Peoria (6-9) for the second time this season. Wisconsin went 2-1 to open up the season against the Chiefs.

Single-A Carolina

Carolina had another strong week, winning four of six against the Augusta GreenJackets (7-8) to improve to 12-3 this season, three games ahead of Fredericksburg in the division.

Luis Castillo, Kay-Lan Nicasia, and Yophery Rodriguez each collected two homers this week, with Rodriguez leading the team with seven RBIs. Juan Baez led the team with nine hits, hitting .375/.464/.458. As a team, the Mudcats hit .250/.353/.391, leading the league with six homers and scoring 31 runs.

Yujanyer Herrera had another strong long-relief appearance, allowing two runs with six strikeouts across five innings of work. Morris Austin, Yorman Galindez, and Manuel Rodriguez tied for the team lead with seven strikeouts each, as Galindez went four scoreless innings in his start and Rodriguez allowed just one run on five hits in five innings. As a pitching staff, the Mudcats had a 3.83 ERA, leading the league with 63 strikeouts in 49 ⅓ innings.

The Mudcats return home to take on the Salem Red Sox (6-9) for the second time this year. Carolina went 3-0 in Salem to open up the season.
