BREWERS MINOR LEAGUE ROUNDUP: WEEK 6

Each week, I’ll be bringing you a roundup of the Brewers minor league affiliates, including score updates, key players, and more. Here is the week six roundup.

Triple-A Nashville

The Sounds went 2-4 against the Norfolk Tides (16-17), salvaging the last two games after dropping the first four in the series to move to 15-18 on the season, 5.5 games behind Omaha (19-11) in the International League West.

After Tyler Black was called up, the Sounds were led on offense by Yonny Hernandez, who collected eight hits while no other players had more than four hits. Brewer Hicklen and Chavez Young both homered for Nashville, with Hicklen leading the squad with six RBIs. As a team, the Sounds hit just .184/.294/.279 with two homers and 25 runs scored.

Carlos F. Rodriguez had his best start of the season, earning the win as he went five innings and allowed just one run on a hit and a walk with nine strikeouts. Aaron Ashby also had a strong showing, allowing one run with six strikeouts over five innings of work. As a staff, the Sounds pitchers finished the week with a rough 5.67 ERA but led the league with 75 strikeouts in 54 innings.

The Sounds head back to the road to battle the Durham Bulls (13-20) for the first time this season.

Double-A Biloxi

The Shuckers had another off week against the Tennessee Smokies (15-11), going 2-4 as they fell under .500 with a 13-14 record, two games behind Montgomery and Pensacola in the standings.

Brock Wilken, who has been out of several weeks, was sent on a rehab assignment with the ACL Brewers, where he went 1-for-3 with a double. Mike Boeve hit his first homer of the season while driving in four runs this week, hitting .346/.393/.538. Carlos D. Rodriguez led the team with 12 hits in just 19 at-bats, slashing .632/.650/.789 with six RBIs. The Shuckers hit .266/.348/.370 with three homers and 27 runs scored on the week.

Jacob Misiorowski had another strong start, going five innings and allowing no runs on two hits and four walks with a team-high eight strikeouts. Misiorowski has now struck out 36 batters in just 23 ⅓ innings. Kaleb Bowman was the top reliever this week, spanning five scoreless innings in two appearances with one strikeout. The pitching staff finished the week with a 5.63 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 46 ⅓ innings.

The Shuckers return home to battle the division-leading Montgomery Biscuits (15-12). Biloxi went 2-1 against the Biscuits to open up the season.

High-A Wisconsin

Wisconsin had their first losing series of the season against Great Lakes (18-9), going 2-4 against the fellow first place Loons. At 17-10, the Rattlers are now tied with Quad Cities for first place in the Midwest League West.

Terence Doston and Jesus Chirinos each homered for the Rattlers, while four players (Jadher Areinamo, Gregory Barrios, Luis Lara, and Dylan O’Rae) tied for the team lead with six hits each. As a team, Wisconsin hit .228/.358/.312 with two homers and 28 runs scored.

Alexander Cornielle and Will Rudy earned the two wins this week with strong starts from each. Cornielle went six innings and allowed no runs on two hits and three walks with six strikeouts, while Rudy went six innings and allowed one run on two hits with five strikeouts. As a staff, the Rattlers had a 5.00 ERA, striking out 57 in 54 innings.

The Rattlers now head to Quad Cities to take on the River Bandits for the first time this season as both teams vie for an early first place lead.

Single-A Carolina

A rainy end to the week kept Carolina from finishing their series against Columbia (13-11) over the weekend, as the Mudcats went 3-1 across the first four games of the series to move to 18-7 on the season, one game ahead of Fredericksburg (18-9) in the division.

Miguel Briceno and Daniel Guilarte both homered for the Mudcats, as Guilarte also led the team with eight hits and three walks, slashing .471/.550/.824 on the week. Tayden Hall had another strong week as he led the team with seven RBIs, hitting .294/.316/.412. As a team, the Mudcats hit .292/.350/.410 with two homers and 27 runs scored.

All four starters had strong games this weekend, combining to allow just four earned runs across 19 ⅔ innings (1.83 ERA) with 22 strikeouts. Daniel Corniel and Manuel Rodriguez were the standouts, as Corniel allowed one run on four hits with seven strikeouts across six innings and Rodriguez allowed one run on two hits and a walk with seven strikeouts across 5 ⅔ innings. As a pitching staff, the Mudcats had a 3.00 ERA, striking out 44 batters in 39 innings.

The Mudcats head to Fayetteville to take on the Woodpeckers (16-11) for the first time this year.
