"IT'S ONLY $2 MILLION" - DODGERS MANAGER DAVE ROBERTS POKES FUN AT SHOHEI OHTANI AFTER FOUL BALL SCARE

Shohei Ohtani was nearly injured by a screaming foul ball that came into the dugout. If not for a batboy with lightning-quick reflexes, he might have been struck by the ball and could have been hurt. The batboy caught the ball, allowing everyone to breathe a sigh of relief.

Dave Roberts and reporter Alanna Rizzo believe that Ohtani might need to reward the batboy, whose name is Javier Herrera, with a Porsche like Ohtani did to swap numbers with Joe Kelly.

Rizzo said someone from the team needed to get Herrera a real Porsche, unlike the toy Ohtani gifted Roberts since he "saved the franchise." Roberts agreed, saying:

"Yeah, you're right. So, he buys Joe Kelly and his wife Ashley a Porsche for the number switch, so... Javi saved. his life. So, hey, man. He's only making $2 million this year. It's one $2 million."

Roberts was referring to the deferred money. While Ohtani technically makes $70 million from the Los Angeles Dodgers, he's only being paid $2 million of it right now.

Roberts further joked that he was right about Ohtani's low salary and was sure there was no other income from off-field opportunities, either.

Shohei Ohtani earns All-Star game appearance

Barring any unforeseen injuries or personal issues (and thanks to Herrera's quick hands catching that foul ball), Shohei Ohtani is in good health and will be in the MLB All-Star Game later this month in Arlington, Texas.

He was not the top vote-getter in Phase One of the MLB All-Star voting, but he was voted in during Phase Two. Everyone, aside from Bryce Harper in the National League had to go through the voting process.

Ohtani beat out Philadelphia Phillies DH Kyle Schwarber to land the starting spot in the All-Star Game. It will be Ohtani's fourth straight All-Star Game appearance in seven years as an MLB player.

He will presumably be joined by other Dodgers players, such as Teoscar Hernandez, Will Smith, Tyler Glasnow and maybe Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Reserves and pitchers have not been named just yet.
