ORIOLES MINOR LEAGUE RECAP 4/22: KYLE BRADISH GOES 3.1 INNINGS FOR NORFOLK, KYLE BRNOVICH IS BRILLIANT FOR BOWIE

Triple-A: Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (MIA) 8, Norfolk Tides 4

The Tides couldn’t keep up their winning ways against the Jumbo Shrimp. Kyle Bradish tossed his first Triple-A rehab start, and his control was a little off: he issued three walks, hit a batter, and uncorked a wild pitch. But he did throw 64 pitches and completed 3 1/3 innings while striking out four, which has to be considered a win.

The Tides scored their four runs off #20 prospect Nick Monteverde on a pair of two-run home runs: one by Ryan McKenna in the first inning, one by Peyton Burdick in the fifth. The lately unstoppable Coby Mayo (#3) went 3-for-4; Heston Kjerstad (#4) singled.

The game was still tied, 4-4, in the sixth inning, when Chayce McDermott and Jonathan Heasley combined to surrender four more runs.

Box Score

Double-A: Bowie Baysox 5, Altoona Curve (PIT) 4

The game was tied, 2-2, with two men on when Dylan Beavers (#7) stepped to the plate and cracked his second home run of the year. The three-run blast gave the Baysox a three-run lead and an eventual win.

Including Beavers, Baysox’s top five hitters all had a hit or more. Beavers finished 2-for-3 with a walk. Jud Fabian (#12) went 1-for-2 with two walks, and the same was true of catcher Silas Ardoin. Billy Cook (#30) and Samuel Basallo (#2) each doubled.

You can’t do it much better than Bowie starter Kyle Brnovich did on Sunday. The 26-year-old tore through Altoona’s hitters over five scoreless, one-hit innings during which he struck out eight. In three starts totaling 13 innings, Brnovich has a 2.08 ERA and 0.92 WHIP.

Five other Bowie hurlers pitched after him: Kyle Vrbitsky, Nick Richmond, Kade Strowd, Keegan Gillies and Ryan Hennen. Richmond and Gillies allowed two runs apiece, but Bowie’s lead was secure.

Box Score

High-A: Aberdeen IronBirds 6, Hudson Valley Renegades (NYY) 3

Down a run with two outs in the eighth, the IronBirds pulled off a four-run rally to close out the series with the New York affiliate Renegades. Ryan Higgins hit a game-tying single before Jalen Vasquez drove in two more, then scored on a throwing error. The bottom five hitters—Creed Willems, Higgins, Vasquez, Isaac De León, and Adam Retzbach—had all of Aberdeen’s hits, at least one apiece. (Enrique Bradfield, who got hit in the head with a tag in his previous game, didn’t play.)

Starter Zach Fruit (0-1, 3.65 ERA) walked three, struck out five, and allowed three runs in 4.1 innings. Following him, a trio of pitchers—Juan de los Santos, Teddy Sharkey and Graham Firoved—kept Hudson Valley off the board over 4.2 innings.

Box Score
