NASCAR DEALING WITH UNFORTUNATE WEATHER DURING SUNDAY'S RACE

Mother Nature caused a delay in Sunday's Enjoy Illinois 300.

NASCAR halted the race around 4 p.m. ET after detecting lightning near the area. They didn't provide any additional updates as of this writing.

Per FOX's Bob Pockrass, NASCAR detected the lightning approximately four miles away from Gateway Motorsports Park. He anticipated a half-hour delay before resuming the race.

Before the red flag, Kyle Busch led in the early stages of the 240-lap race. Ryan Blaney, who snapped a 59-race win drought at the Coca-Cola 600 last weekend, was in second.

They won't have to contend with 2022 regular-season Cup Series champion Chase Elliott, who is serving a suspension for wrecking Denny Hamlin's car at Charlotte. Corey LaJoie is taking the wheel of Elliott's No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro.

Fans, including one going viral for his homemade NASCAR short, are awaiting a return to play in Madison. Hopefully the weather will clear shortly.
