NASCAR INSIDER: ERIK JONES IS ONE TO WATCH AS SILLY SEASON RAMPS UP

Silly season is in full swing for NASCAR, which means an insider has some interesting information on Erik Jones. Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports released his lineup projections for the 2025 Cup Series season and shared his thoughts on whether Jones will be resigned by Legacy Motor Club.

“Erik Jones is not signed yet for next season,” Pockrass wrote. “The team most likely would like him back but he at least would listen to other offers. If he were to leave, [Corey] Heim would be a possibility in this car.”

Jones has had an interesting 2024 season. After finishing eighth in the Daytona 500, Jones suffered a fractured vertebra during a crash at Talladega and missed the next two races. Inearly June, Jones spoke to Pockrass about his injury and said the recovery is going well.

“It’s good. I felt 100 percent now for the last three weeks,” Jones said. “I’m back in the gym doing what I was doing before as far as lifting weights and don’t have any lingering effects. I had a doctor’s appointment last week going to make sure everything was healing good. Only have one more in two more months. That will be my final one to check back up, but I’m feeling really good.”

A closer look at Erik Jones’ career

After retunring from the injury, Jones has not recorded a top 10-finish. This past wekeend in Nashville, the 28-year-old finished 34th, his worst finish since Talladega when he earned a P35 finish due to the crash and injury.

Jones has been involved with Legacy Motor Club since 2021 when it was called Richard Petty Motorsports. Before joining his current team, Jones spent three years with Joe Gibbs Racing and won two races during that. His first year as a full-time Cup Series driver was in 2017 when he was with Furniture Row Racing.

Jones currently drives the No. 43 car. And has Pockrass mentioned, if Jones is not back with Legacy, Heim will likely take over since he did it in the two races Jones missed this year. Heim currently drives full-time in the Truck Series and and has won four races this year. He is currently second in the Truck Series driver standings behind Christian Eckes and is the only driver to have four wins. In the two Cup Series races Heim competed in this year, he earned a P25 and P22 finish in Dover and Kansas, respectively.
