"THIS COULD BE A HUGE MISTAKE FOR DENNY HAMLIN AND TOYOTA"- FORMER NASCAR MECHANIC LABELS JGR DRIVER'S SLIPUP THAT COULD COST THEM

A former NASCAR mechanic has unveiled that Denny Hamlin's verdict on Joey Logano having more miles per gallon in Nashville could fire back at the former. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver revealed the Toyotas had more horsepower than the Fords.

After cruising through the wrecks and cautions, Joey Logano bagged his first regular-season win this year during the Ally 400 at the Nashville Superspeedway. Despite starting from 26th place, the Team Penske driver benefitted from the restarts, inching closer to the frontrunners.

Drivers like Kyle Larson, Chase Briscoe, and Chase Elliott, among others, suffered from low gas. But Logano's #22 Ford ran until the checkered flag dropped.

A NASCAR insider detailed the math behind Logano's sustained 110-lap run in a single fuel tank with nearly 21 gallons. However, Denny Hamlin believed that the Fords have less horsepower than the Toyotas, which means more combustion when pressing the pedal. Hence, the fuel would burn slowly in the #22 Ford compared to Hamlin's #11 Toyota.

"Look at the cars that ran out first, it was Chevys, then it was Toyotas, then the Fords were last to run out. So when you have more horsepower you typically run out of gas quicker because you use more and more fuel," Hamlin said via Dirty Mo Media on YouTube (12.23).

While Denny Hamlin's rationale seems reasonable, the 2x NASCAR Craftsman Mechanic Of The Year Dave Green highlighted the big slip-up made by the JGR driver.

Green pointed out that Hamlin might land in an unwanted situation after claiming his manufacturer had more horses than Logano's car as NASCAR could make a move that could rob the Toyotas of the extra thrust savored.

Taking to X, Green wrote:

"Denny openly admits the Toyotas have more horsepower then the Fords which caused Joey to have more fuel. No way Dale Sr in his prime would ever say the Chevys had more horsepower in fear that NASCAR would give the Fords and advantage."

He added:

"This could be a huge mistake for Denny and Toyota. You never acknowledge in media that you have an advantage over a manufacturer. @dennyhamlin #NASCAR," he expressed.

Denny Hamlin outlines a minor dissimilarity in the fuel tank that resulted in Joey Logano's triumph

Every stock car has to meet a set of criteria before it's allowed to compete on the asphalt. Thus, every component of the high-octane ride is quite similar to their rivals. However, per Denny Hamlin, the nominal dissimilarities are, for the most part, present in the parts.

He pointed out that different manufacturers had fuel tanks that differed from their rivals. The #11 Toyota driver claimed the dissimilarity to be "minuscule," it could turn around the face of the game if the focal point becomes fuel-saving.

Denny Hamlin revealed Joey Logano won because he didn't run out of fuel.

"I think that not every fuel cell is exactly the same so you're going to have a little bit of variance there. It's just like every part you buy on the car, while they're the same, they're not the same. So some guys have more a bigger fuel cell than the other guys," Hamlin said (10.43).
"It's such a minuscule it's small amount but the difference between him [Joey Logano] finishing the race and not was he ran out," the JGR driver added.

The result would've been different if other drivers had not succumbed to gas issues due to five overtime restarts.
