LAKERS NEWS: ASSISTANT COACH PROSPECT TURNS DOWN LA

The Los Angeles Lakers are actively assembling their coaching staff under newly appointed head coach J.J. Redick.

Despite their efforts, they faced a setback when Dwayne Casey, a seasoned coach with extensive NBA experience, declined their offer to join as an assistant coach. Casey, currently with the Detroit Pistons, chose not to relocate his family.

Casey's decision leaves the Lakers still searching for additional coaching talent. However, they have successfully brought on board two experienced assistants: Nate McMillan and Scott Brooks.

McMillan, who has previously led teams like the Seattle SuperSonics, Portland Trail Blazers, Indiana Pacers, and Atlanta Hawks, boasts a career record of 768-668. Brooks, with head coaching stints at the Oklahoma City Thunder and Washington Wizards, holds a 521-414 record.

These hires are crucial for the Lakers, especially given Redick's lack of coaching experience. McMillan and Brooks bring a wealth of knowledge from their time as both players and coaches, which will be invaluable as the team navigates the upcoming season.

The Lakers are in a busy period, having just completed the NBA Draft and now diving into free agency. Additionally, the Summer League is set to begin on Saturday, adding to the flurry of activity for the franchise.
