REPORT: LAKERS SIGN BLAKE HINSON TO A 2-YEAR, TWO-WAY CONTRACT

The Lakers may not have executed a blockbuster trade this summer, but they’ve begun locking up their younger players.

Blake Hinson has now reportedly signed a two-way contract with the Lakers for the next two seasons, according to Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype.

Hinson was unselected in this year’s draft. The Lakers picked up the undrafted guard immediately following the NBA Draft and signed him on a two-way contract.

The two-year contract ensures the Lakers have him as part of the young nucleus of players they are building.

He’ll be joining along with Dalton Knecht, Bronny James and the team’s other two-way addition, Armel Traore, as part of the Summer League roster playing in the California Classic and Las Vegas Summer League this July.

While JJ Redick will be involved in Summer League action, he will not be the primary coach, as that duty will fall on Dane Johnson’s hands.

Johnson is head coach of the South Bay Lakers head coach and someone Hinson will be working with for most of the 2024-25 season.

In college, Hinson was known as an elite shooter. He improved yearly and ended his collegiate career, hitting 42.1% of his 3-pointers and averaging 18.5 points per game.

With a couple of years as a Laker and the organization planning on hiring a Director of Player Development, there’s optimism that Hinson can become the best version of himself in Southern California.

He has work to do as an undersized player. Still, he’s shown an ability to improve year in and year out at the college level, so hopefully, now that he’s a Lakers, that growth trajectory will continue.

The best case scenario is for Hinson to follow the Austin Reaves path, going from an undrafted player to a rotation-level player or even a starter for this team down the road.

That’s a lofty goal, but this organization has achieved it before and will aim to do it again as it attempts to maximize all its assets on the roster.
