RUMORS: MAVERICKS INTERESTED IN BLOCKBUSTER TRADE FOR BLAZERS STAR

The Dallas Mavericks are amid one of their most crucial offseasons in recent memory as they attempt to retool their roster around Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving after losing to the Boston Celtics in the 2024 NBA Finals in five games.

Mavs GM Nico Harrison says the core is set going into next season, but that doesn't mean that Dallas won't be looking to make any trades to improve their squad.

Dallas has already been in some rumors for Tobias Harris of the Philadelphia 76ers, and their most recent trade interest comes for a player who they were ruled a "dream fit" for earlier this offseason.

Rumors: Mavericks interested in blockbuster trade for Jerami Grant

According to a recent report from Ian Begley of SNY, the Mavs are a team that has "checked in on Jerami Grant’s situation in Portland."

Dallas showed interest in Grant at the trade deadline last season, and it seems as if they remain interested in a trade for Grant going into next season. Last season for Portland, Grant averaged 21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 0.8 steals per game while shooting 45.1 percent from the field and 40.1 percent from downtown.

Grant has turned into a star over the last couple of seasons, and if the Mavs were to pull off a trade for him, it would be a blockbuster that would propel them to the top of the Western Conference once again. Grant can knock down shots off the catch, get to the rim, and create his own shot when he needs to.

He has also shown flashes that he can be a great defender, and his fit into Dallas' starting lineup next to Irving, Doncic, P.J. Washington, and Daniel Gafford would be seamless. The Mavs needed a shooter badly this season, and a trade for Grant would allow Derrick Jones Jr. to move to the bench (if they re-sign him).

Keeping Jones Jr. is a priority for Dallas, and adding another shooter in the starting lineup next to Doncic and Irving is ideal. Washington showed flashes during the playoffs, especially during the second-round series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, that he can be a reliable shooter, but the Mavs need a proven shooter.

Going into next season with two shaky shooters in the starting lineup in Jones Jr. and Washington may not be the best move (although this lineup led them to the NBA Finals), and Dallas would get significantly better if they were able to acquire Grant from the Blazers.

For all the latest on the Dallas Mavericks all offseason long, stay tuned.
