TEAM USA ISSUES STATEMENT REGARDING CAITLIN CLARK'S OLYMPIC STATUS

The Team USA women's roster for the 2024 Paris Olympics will be announced on June 1.

Despite receiving an invite to USA training camp earlier this month, Caitlin Clark was unable to attend due to Iowa's participation in the NCAA Tournament Final Four.

Though Clark was unable to attend training camp, that doesn't disqualify her from making this year's Olympic team. Instead, the start to her WNBA career will serve as her tryout.

Team USA selection committee chair Jennifer Rizzotti recently discussed Clark's opportunity to make the team.

“You always want to introduce new players into the pool whether it’s for now or the future,” Rizzotti told the Associated Press. “We stick to our principles of talent, obviously, positional fit, loyalty and experience. It’s got to be a combination of an entire body of work. It’s still not going to be fair to some people.”

Clark was selected by the Indiana Fever with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft earlier this month. All eyes will be on Clark as she makes her regular-season WNBA debut on May 14 — including the eyes of the Team USA Selection Committee.

“It’s where I want to be,” Clark told the AP last week. “Three-on-three is really cool, I’ve just never done it. But 5-on-5 is the goal and the dream. To play with the best in the world and against the best in the world, you can’t script it better than that.”
