6 WINNERS, 4 LOSERS FROM THE RAVENS’ PRESEASON LOSS TO THE PACKERS

The final opportunity for those competing for a roster spot has concluded as the Baltimore Ravens end their preseason schedule with a 30-7 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Here are the players who saw their stock rise or fall.

Winners

QB Josh Johnson — Firmly, Johnson solidified himself as the Ravens’ No. 2 quarterback. With little room to run, Johnson had to make a play to move the first-half offense, and he did so with a downfield strike to wide receiver Tylan Wallace for a 48-yard touchdown—the only Ravens’ score of the game.

WR Tylan Wallace — Wallace’s camp in 2023 was middling. This year, he’s showed out with consistent play in practice and back-to-back touchdown receptions in the preseason. His road to the roster was partially up for grabs if another receiver stepped up. Instead, he bolted the door closed and nobody came knocking.

LB Trenton Simpson — Another stat-padding preseason outing for Simpson as he finished with six tackles, a quarterback hit, pass defensed and interception. He’s grown in each preseason contest. His next test will be Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs, but he’ll be beside Roquan Smith and with the starting unit to help further him along.

OLB Joe Evans — In the first quarter of play, Evans delivered two quarterback hits and blew up a tunnel screen to keep the Packers from a first down and settling for a field goal. Evans showed good rush, strength and football intelligence that will likely land him on the Ravens’ practice squad or a roster elsewhere.

S Beau Brade — The Ravens’ run defense struggled at the line of scrimmage so it was up to those in the second and third levels to make a play. Brade come through more than a few times, finishing with eight total tackles, seven of them solo. His biggest play showcased his ability to diagnose and execute as he flew through to make a tackle for loss.

P Jordan Stout — It was a demonstration of strength and skill for Stout as he bombed four punts for 247 yards (61.8 average). He came a half-second from pinning one at the one-yard line, but did get another inside the 20. His longest punt went for 69 yards.

Losers

QB Devin Leary — This was a poor outing for Leary as he threw two interceptions and was strip-sacked by an unblocked pass rusher that was recovered and ran back for a touchdown. Leary finished going 6-for-13 passing for 34 yards, two interceptions and a 13.5 quarterback rating. His longest pass went for nine yards.

TE Riley Sharp — One of Leary’s six completions went to Sharp, who fumbled the ball moments later. That was Sharp’s lone reception of the preseason, which is a tough start and end to his time as a Raven.

WR Deonte Harty — The Ravens signed Harty specifically for his return ability but he failed to show the playmaking ability that makes him such an X-factor in special teams.

Andrew Vorhees, Daniel Faalele, Roger Rosengarten — The Ravens played three of their five starters in each of their preseason games and in each game they could never generate rush lanes and push against their opposition. While they did not allow a sack on Johnson (and the strip sack on Leary was unblocked on left tackle Josh Jones’ side), they must find a way to improve before their matchup in Kansas City in under two weeks.
