FRIDAY CHEESE CURDS: CAMP INJURIES UNDERSCORE REASON FOR LOVE’S HOLD-IN

Jordan Love believes that he and the Green Bay Packers will work out a new contract soon. The Packers believe it. The fans believe it. So with all interested parties confident that the details will be finalized soon, the level of concern around him sitting out the first few practices of training camp is impressively low at this point.

But recent developments around the NFL have illustrated why Love is sitting out even despite his confidence in getting a deal done. The Detroit Lions just had a player suffer a season-ending injury in practice this week — the very reason why Love’s agents want him skipping practice until a deal is signed.

That injury even came to a player who is not involved in any contact drills: their kicker, Michael Badgley. Badgley was money for the Lions late last season, hitting all 7 of his field goal attempts after signing with the team. Now Detroit is looking for a new option at that position.

But for Love, the prospect of a non-contact injury does and should give him some pause. After all, just think back a few years when his teammate, David Bakhtiari, hurt his knee in practice just weeks after signing a new deal.

Let’s look at what’s going on in practice while Rodgers is out, as well as the injury that puts a fine point on his decision.
