NFL DRAFT RUMORS: AT LEAST 3 TEAMS BELOW SEAHAWKS LOOKING TO TRADE UP IN ROUND 1

It’s the night before the NFL Draft, which means it’s time for some rumors!

And now it’s time for some pre-draft rumors. It’s been very boring and close to the vest regarding the Seattle Seahawks, which leaves us looking at other teams’ rumors to see if we can link them to the Seahawks’ draft plans.

With the belief/expectation that the Seahawks will trade down from No. 16, obviously Seattle needs trading partners who want to move up. According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, there are a few teams below them in the draft order on the phones and eyeing a higher pick. One of them is an NFC West rival.

The people I talk to think we’re likely to see more trades in the second half of the first round than in the first half. The Colts (No. 15), Jaguars (No. 17), Rams (No. 19) and Eagles (No. 22) are all teams I’ve heard have been making calls about potentially moving up.

For the Colts and Jaguars, the target would most likely be a cornerback, which might be interesting to a team like Chicago at No. 9 or Denver at No. 12. Having two division rivals battling it out to trade up for the same guy (maybe Alabama’s Terrion Arnold?) could drive up the price. People I’ve talked to believe the Eagles want to try to move up for a receiver, though one theory I found very interesting and potentially hilarious is that they could move up for tight end Brock Bowers, given their recent predilection for Georgia players. If the Rams move up, it would be to get one of their top targets on defense.

Graziano also said the Cincinnati Bengals (No. 18) are a team to watch for a possible move up, but didn’t say they’ve also been making calls.

Ignoring the Colts, who pick before the Seahawks, we’ve got the Jaguars, Rams, Eagles, and maybe the Bengals. Philadelphia may be the most tantalizing since they have two second-round picks (No. 50 and No. 53) and no third-rounder. The Eagles would most likely have to part with one of those picks if they want to move up, which should be music to John Schneider’s ears if he wants a second-rounder.

The Rams haven’t made a first-round pick since Jared Goff in 2016, so it’d be quite amusing to watch them trade up. I wouldn’t totally discount the idea of an in-division picks swap; the Seahawks did this with the San Francisco 49ers in the 2017 draft before taking Malik McDowell.
