PATRICK MAHOMES’ SELF-AWARE REACTION TO LEARNING HE’S ONE OF AFC’S OLDEST QBS WAS SO ENDEARING

As he basks in the glow of his second career Super Bowl title, Patrick Mahomes has shown a lot of self-awareness this offseason. Earlier this spring, for example, Mahomes didn’t rank himself among the five greatest NFL quarterbacks ever (even though he probably could’ve).

Now, as he starts to become a member of the AFC’s old guard, the Kansas City Chiefs superstar seems unbothered by any characterization of him being “old.”

When Mahomes saw a Sunday Night Football graphic officially designating him as one of the AFC’s five “most experienced” quarterbacks, he couldn’t help but laugh. Time really does fly, doesn’t it?

As it stands, only Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, and Jimmy Garoppolo are older AFC signal-callers, while Mahomes is tied with Deshaun Watson at seven years apiece (entering 2023). It might have felt like only yesterday when the Chiefs drafted Mahomes, but it was, indeed, in 2017.

And six years later, he’s not only the unquestioned king of pro football, he’s also got many miles on his career odometer. At the age of 27, Mahomes doesn’t seem bothered by that reality one bit.
