PATRIOTS OFFENSIVE TACKLE VEDERIAN LOWE REPORTEDLY SIDELINED DUE TO ‘MINOR’ OBLIQUE INJURY

The New England Patriots offensive line suffered another hit on Wednesday when Vederian Lowe, who had been the top left tackle for most of training camp, had to exit practice due to an apparent injury. However, the 25-year-old seems to have avoided any major damage.

Lowe is dealing with an oblique injury, according to a report by the Boston Globe’s Christopher Price. The injury is considered to be of the “minor” variety and not expected to be a long-term issue.

Filling his usual role as the starting-unit left tackle during Wednesday’s practice, Lowe departed for the medical shed during the session’s first 11-on-11 period. He eventually departed altogether, and was unable to participate on Thursday as well; while present, he watched practice from the sidelines.

In his place, the Patriots originally inserted third-round rookie Caedan Wallace into the lineup. On Thursday, Chukwuma Okorafor moved over from the right side with the team turning to Michael Onwenu as its new right tackle and Layden Robinson as its new right guard.

A sixth-round selection by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2022 NFL Draft, Lowe originally arrived in New England via trade last August. Despite his late arrival, he ended up starting eight games in his first season with the organization at both left and right tackle. However, he struggled as a run blocker and pass protector and finished the year having surrendered a team-high 38 quarterback pressures, including six sacks.

Nonetheless, the Patriots held onto the Illinois product heading into 2024. In fact, he was installed as the top left tackle early in training camp and kept that job up until his injury.
