WHY MICHIGAN WILL LAND A TRANSFER PORTAL RECEIVER

Michigan has potential at wideout.

Tyler Morris and Semaj Morgan came up clutch in key moments last season. Fredrick Moore and Kendrick Bell both had touchdowns in Michigan’s spring game on Saturday. Then there’s Peyton O’Leary, who has played well the past two spring games but hasn’t seen the field much once the season rolls around. However, they’ve lost depth this offseason with Cristian Dixon and Eamonn Dennis transferring.

While Michigan feels good about the options they have at receiver, offensive Kirk Campbell also acknowledged on Saturday that it’s still a position that could use more depth. Receiver seems like an obvious position that Michigan will be targeting via transfer portal this month.

“We got some explosive guys. It’s a top loaded room,” Campbell said. “We need to get some guys to help out there. We probably will look at some guys in that position. How many, I’m not sure.”

There’s no indication what receivers Michigan may target in the portal. The portal opened on April 16 and will close on April 30. Michigan has a little over a week to bolster their 2024 roster through the portal. Campbell is looking ahead and realizes that injuries are inevitable in football and wants to make sure that Michigan’s not in a situation where they’re shorthanded at wideout.

“We just don’t even have numbers — You look at the roster depth, you need enough guys. Hamstring injuries are going to happen, quad injuries. We just got to make sure we have enough guy to field the roster.”

Receiver Fredrick Moore concurs with Campbell that Michigan could benefit from adding more receivers, saying “the depth is a light right now.”

“I feel as though we can get some help,” Moore said. “I know coaches want us to get help.”

Although Moore says the depth is light, he believes that the receivers currently on the roster can get the job done in their own right.

“We’re still strong though. We don’t have that many numbers, but we are still strong,” Moore said. “We still have guys who gonna step up and do their job. But it’s tough.”

We’ll know in the very near future what Michigan’s receiver room is going to look like for the upcoming season, and it would be a shock at this point if the program didn’t add a receiver or two in the next week.
