ZACH ALLEN EXCITED ABOUT THE POTENTIAL OF THE DENVER BRONCOS REVAMPED DEFENSIVE LINE

Issues across the defensive line plagued the Denver Broncos in 2023. It was the primary culprit in their struggles on that side of the ball especially in regard to their poor run defense. Opposing teams averaged five yards per carry against the Broncos which had them ranked dead last in the National Football League.

Though after a promising training camp and two preseason games, the area of the team with the most question marks last season appears to be a strength for them in 2024. Football games are won in the trenches. Head Coach Sean Payton and General Manager George Paton know that.

With that in mind, it’s no surprise they added John Franklin-Myers, Malcolm Roach, and Angelo Blackson into the fold. That’s a lot of veteran leadership with experience to help turn the tides defensively. On top of that, fourth-round pick Eyioma Uwazurike who has the size and athleticism to be a quality contributor this season is back in action.

Entering his second season with the team, defensive lineman Zach Allen is excited about the potential of the group and the chemistry they have formed to date.

“I think it’s been great. It has definitely improved since last year. The guys that we got kind of fit in seamlessly. The majority of us have now been together for a whole year,” stated Allen. “On and off the field, it’s probably my favorite group playing with ever. We have a really good thing going.”

On paper this year’s defensive line group looks to be the best the Mile High City has boasted in quite some time. It will give Defensive Coordinator Vance Joseph a lot of options schematically. His change to a more attack-style defensive front plays well to the strengths of the players battling it out for the final roster spots.

In my opinion, it would be smart for them to keep six players on the final roster. A strong rotation will help keep the starters fresh and be an added bonus for their young players at edge rusher who are looking to improve. While the talent is there, it’s the mix of personalities and communication that will be crucial for improved performance when the regular season starts in just a few weeks.

“It’s huge. I think it definitely goes kind of understated just because there’s just so much communication that has to happen on the field,” added Allen.

“When you have that, you’re able to be a lot more productive both on the field and off the field. Like I said, it’s a really special group and I’m excited to see what we do this year.”

I’m looking forward to seeing how the Broncos’ revamped and revitalized defensive line unit does this season. They played incredibly well against the Indianapolis Colts and Green Bay Packers by holding them to less than 3.5 yards per carry. If that trend continues into the regular season, teams are going to have a tough time scoring points on the Broncos. And you know what that means—a lot more wins for the good guys in 2024.
