FANS SPREADING CAITLIN CLARK SPECULATION AFTER MERCURY STAR'S INJURY
In a game that snapped their two-game losing streak, Caitlin Clark was as close as it gets to having a viral play that may have stuck around for the rest of her career.
With the Indiana Fever taking on the Phoenix Mercury, Clark and the Fever walked away victorious with Clark coming up just a rebound shy of recording a triple-double. Even despite the strong showing from Clark in a win over her "rival" or "nemesis" Diana Taurasi, there was one play in particular that fans can't stop talking about.
In fact, the play doesn't have anything to do with her 15 points, 12 assists, or nine rebounds but is instead regarding the near-highlight play that ended up being a blunder.
In the first quarter with the Fever looking to erase the Mercury's lead 21-14, Clark dribbled the ball up the court, and hit Phoenix star Rebecca Allen with a nasty crossover that led to her falling. With a wide-open step-back three, and a potential generational viral clip opportunity, Clark ended up air-balling the shot. The crossover still led to a ton of chatter on social media with a lot of fans questioning "what if". However, the play has again emerged as a topic of discussion on Monday, as fans are now questioning if Allen tweaked her back on the play as she appears to wince in pain.
While Allen came into Sunday's contest questionable with a lower back issue, she was able to play over 20 minutes against the Fever. However, for the Mercury's Monday contest against the Connecticut Sun, she was ruled out. This led to some fans speculating that it was actually as a result of Clark's crossover
Back injuries are always a tricky situation, so only Allen knows if this was the cause of the flare up, but hopefully she can make a return soon. As for the Fever and Clark, they return to action on Tuesday against the Las Vegas Aces.
