NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL: NFL DRAFT PROSPECT ANALYTICS — QUARTERBACK

Notre Dame has one quarterback prospect angling to be selected in the 2024 NFL Draft. Sam Hartman joined the program for its 2023 outing after spending four season with Wake Forest. He was touted as having a lot of promise for both his final rip in CFB but also in the NFL. While the CFB part didn’t go quite as we all expected, Hartman is still in the mix to lock in a playing opportunity at the next level.

Draft History

Between 2013 and 2013, the Irish have had two quarterbacks drafted in the NFL Draft. Those two picks were split between the second and fourth rounds.

Deshone Kizer was taken in the second round, 52nd pick in the second round while Ian Book came off the board at #133 in the fourth round of the 2021 Draft.

2024 Prospect: Sam Hartman

Across his six seasons with Wake Forest and Notre Dame, Sam Hartman passed for a total of 15,656 yards. He averaged 2,609 yards per season with his most prolific outing coming in 2021. That season he passed for 4,228 yards at the helm of the Demon Deacons program. Hartman’s final CFB season (2,689 yards) ranked #3 in terms of his overall passing production.

His passing efficiency steadily got better throughout his career. In Hartman’s first year at Wake Forest he completed 55.3% of pass attempts but finished his career with 63.5% of passes completed for the Irish.

Hartman made his most significant scoring contributions during the 2021 and 2022 seasons at Wake Forest. In 2021, he tallied up 39 and in 2022 Hartman finished with 38 passing touchdowns. Sam took a step drop-off in in touchdown production during 2023, though, posting only 24. His interceptions trended pretty closely with his passing touchdowns throughout his CFB career.

Draft Predictions

This will be an interesting year for quarterbacks in the Draft. There isn’t a particular shortage of professional franchises looking to fill quarterback needs.. And while there are several CFB prospects who would have historically been poised to fill these gaps, the combo of pandemic career extensions, NIL and transfer portal have made evaluating quarterbacks a much trickier task.

Sam Hartman has been heavily affected by all three of these factors so where do you think he’ll get taken?

Cheers and Go Irish!!
