WBB GONZAGA: FULL SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED
Well, a couple weeks after we learned the route the Men will take, we finally know the Women’s path as the program formally announced the non-conference schedule yesterday on twitter (yes, it’s twitter because that’s what the url link directs to!)
The season opens on November 1st with an exhibition game against the College of Idaho before the team jumps into a six game stretch against opponents faced last season including Montana, Stanford, Cal, Wyoming, Rice, and New Mexico State with toughest likely being away at Stanford.
After the UNM game, the team will travel to the US Virgin Islands for the Paradise Jam where they will take on Missouri State, Texas Tech, and Florida State. The Zags were grouped into the “Reef” bracket and, as far as i can tell, will not be playing against the teams in the “Island” bracket, which includes Kansas, Auburn, Pittsburgh, and University of Northern Iowa if the team wins their section.
To round out this portion of the schedule, the Bulldogs will travel away to Colorado State before returning home to face off against Eastern Washington, a team that took last year’s record-setting team to the wire and only lost by 2 points.
All in all, I think this looks like a strong non-conference schedule. Of the teams currently scheduled, their combined record in the ‘23-24 season was 193-109, featured five teams with more than 20 wins, three NCAA Tournament teams in Rice, FSU, and Stanford, and two WNIT teams in Wyoming and Montana. The worst team by ‘23-24 record on this non-conference schedule is Texas Tech who finished 17-16 overall and 5-13 in the Big 12, but that team was comprised of primarily freshman and sophomores with their biggest contributors all returning for the ‘24-25 season instead of hitting the portal.
We’re getting closer y’all. Closer to basketball season, sure, but closer to me losing my context of life outside of the question, “do the Zags play today?” before realizing i finally added their schedule to my calendar, which is crazy because I don’t even add my stuff to my calendar!
