HOW DO CHELSEA PLAYERS REALLY FEEL ABOUT SACKING MAURICIO POCHETTINO?

Mauricio Pochettino could be set to lose his job as Chelsea head coach this summer and the opinion of the club’s players has now been revealed.

Chelsea’s hierarchy are set to conduct a review of Pochettino’s performance at the end of the season in what was has been another poor campaign for the Blues.

The west Londoners have massively struggled ever since BlueCo took ownership of the club from Roman Abramovich in May 2022.

Last season, Chelsea finshed 12th in the Premier League without a trophy as Todd Boehly et al decided to sack both Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter.

Frank Lampard came in as a caretaker manager until the end of the campaign with Chelsea’s owners deciding to appoint Pochettino as head coach in July.

Chelsea’s fortunes haven’t improved much under the Argentine, though, with the Blues ninth in the Premier League table with six games left with the club once again unable to land any silverware after losing February’s Carabao Cup final.

What do Chelsea players think about sacking Mauricio Pochettino?

The vast majority of Chelsea players support Mauricio Pochettino and do not want him to be sacked, according to the Evening Standard.

It is believed that Chelsea players are keen to avoid the further upheaval another managerial change would bring and they would prefer to have some stability.

They appreciate that Pochettino has shielded many of them from criticism and his work to foster a team spirit from a new bunch of players all over the globe has not gone unnoticed by the squad.

Who will make the final decision?

Mauricio Pochettino’s fate will reportedly be decided by Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali as well as sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart.

Eghbali, who works alongside fellow co-owner Todd Boehly, was forced to run away from angry Chelsea fans after losing to Aston Villa back in September.

He could be set to become Chelsea’s next chairman when Boehly stands down from the role in 2027.

Why is Pochettino under pressure?

Thoughts have already turned towards who might replace Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.

Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim has been linked – but there are suggestions in Portugal he could commit to staying at his current club for another season.

Roberto De Zerbi is also well liked, though the cost of signing him from Brighton – thought to be more than £15m – may prove to be prohibitive.

Hansi Flick is another name linked with the role, though he is not thought to be keen on replacing Pochettino.
