DETAILS EMERGE ABOUT LAKERS' OFFER TO KLAY THOMPSON

After it became public knowledge that four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson would become a free agent and leave the Golden State Warriors after spending his entire career in the Bay Area, a few teams emerged as potential landing spots for the veteran sharpshooter.

The one team that had been mentioned more than most heading into the summer was the Orlando Magic, as the team was armed with cap space and needed some veteran talent to help lead this team, headlined by Paolo Banchero.

However, Orlando turned out not to be a realistic destination, as Thompson prioritized winning and winning now rather than potentially a few years down the road with the Magic.

That said, the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers emerged as the teams with the best chance of landing him, as he has connections with the team his father Mychal Thompson played for and Luka Doncic’s squad is coming off a trip to the NBA Finals.

Interestingly enough, the Mavericks were the favorites all along, as the Lakers were willing to offer much more money over four years, according to Anthony Irwin of Lakers Daily via NBA Central.

With the Lakers being a team that might not be able to compete for a title with or without Thompson, it isn’t all that surprising that he would leave money on the table to go to a better situation with the Mavericks.

Only time will tell if Thompson made the right decision, but now his future is in Dallas, and he will try to help Doncic win his first title.
