JETS 2024 SCHEDULE RELEASE: OPPONENTS, STORYLINES AND PREDICTIONS

The 2024 season is right around the corner for the Jets, and with it comes the release of Gang Green's schedule.

With Aaron Rodgers expected back fully healthy, the Jets will look to cash in on the hopes the team had in 2023 before Rodgers tore his Achilles in Week 1. New York added some key players in the draft and in free agency and now set its sights on offseason workouts before the season kicks off in September.

It's hard to gauge exactly what this season will look like before we know when each game will be played. But we do already know who the Jets will play in 2024 based on how they finished the 2023 season.

Here's a look at the Jets 2024 schedule ahead of the release, including opponents, storylines and primetime predictions.

2024 Jets opponents and locations

2023 at a glance

The 2023 season started and ended with Week 1 when Rodgers went down. New York trotted out a cavalcade of middling to downright awful quarterbacks in his place — from the recently departed Zach Wilson to Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian.

The Jets finished 7-10 somehow, in part due to the strength of their defense and the running game of Breece Hall. Wilson and company strung solid wins early in the year against the Broncos, Eagles and Giants but went on rough losing streaks in the second half of the season.

New York finished with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, which they used to trade back and take offensive tackle Olu Fashanu in the first round instead of drafting tight end Brock Bowers.

Jets 2024 schedule overview

The Jets finished third in the AFC East, meaning they'll take on other third-place teams in their respective AFC divisions. New York will also face the full slate of AFC South and NFC West teams — a tough gamut considering that group includes the Texans, Colts, Jaguars, Rams and49ers — all teams that were in or on the hunt for the playoffs late in the season.

In total, the Jets will see six playoff teams in 2024. That's the same number they faced this past season. Half will be home and half will be on the road. New York will play eight home games and nine away games.

Jets 2024 home games

Team 2023 record
Bills 11-6
Dolphins 11-6
Patriots 4-13
Texans 10-7
Colts 9-8
Rams 10-7
Seahawks 9-8
Broncos 8-9

The Jets went 4-5 in home games this past season. New York beat the Bills and Patriots at MetLife but lost to the Dolphins. The Jets also got a pseudo-home game against the Giants that counted as a road win. Other key victories included wins over the Eagles and Texans.

The key here is the Jets won't have to travel to both Los Angeles and Seattle to face the Rams and Seahawks. The Jets also won't have to travel to Denver to see the Broncos, which they did in 2023. That's huge, as those are three notoriously hard places to play.

Jets 2024 road games

Team 2023 Record
Bills 11-6
Dolphins 11-6
Patriots 4-13
Jaguars 9-8
Titans 6-11
Cardinals 4-13
49ers 12-5
Steelers 10-7
Vikings 7-10

Apart from the obvious AFC East road matches, this away schedule is favorable to the Jets. The trip to San Francisco and Arizona will be the furthest the Jets will travel in 2024. Otherwise, the Jets will make trips to Jacksonville and Minneapolis to play the Jaguars and Vikings. The Steelers and Titans aren't far away at all.

The Jets didn't have much of a travel schedule in 2023, either, which didn't work well for them. New York went 3-6 on the road, one of those "wins" being at MetLife Stadium against the Giants.

Jets primetime game options

The Jets got a lot of primetime action in 2023 because of Rodgers. New York played five total night games, including twice on Sunday and Monday night. Rodgers played a total of four snaps in the Week 1 match versus the Bills on Monday night.

While more primetime action is likely in the store for the Jets, the NFL could try to insulate itself from catastrophe again in 2024 by tampering down Gang Green's primetime action.

Either way, here are the most likely primetime matchups for the Jets.

Bills and/or Dolphins

AFC East action will always sell. Either of the two matchups with the Bills and Dolphins will also affect how both the division and the conference shakes out one way or another.

Texans

The Texans could be must-watch TV in 2024. They have C.J. Stroud under center, a rock-solid defense and also traded for wide receiver Stefon Diggs. Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans replaced Jets head coach Robert Saleh as the 49ers defensive coordinator in 2021.

49ers

Saleh made a name for himself in San Francisco and would return for the first time since he joined the Jets and a lot of his former 49ers players are still on the team as well. The 49ers boast one of the best rosters in the NFL and should be Super Bowl contenders again in the NFC.

Broncos

If Zach Wilson wins the starting job at any point in the season, his return to New York should be in primetime. Wilson proved to be an absolute bust draft pick by the Jets before the team traded him to Denver for a late-round pick swap. The Jets also traded veteran defensive end John Franklin-Myers to the Broncos during the NFL Draft.

Rams

Former Jets offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur joined the Rams in 2023 after he mutually agreed to part ways with Saleh's staff. It's unclear why the partnership didn't work out, but the revenge game could be in store for him in New York.

Jets 2024 schedule prediction

The Rodgers Effect is very real and should play a role in how many primetime games the Jets get in 2024. But after how badly that worked out for the NFL in 2023, it's safe to say the league may be a little more hesitant to hand the Jets too many big games.

Pencil in at least one AFC East game in primetime, as well as the 49ers' match since it'll be on the East Coast. There could be two more on the docket for New York depending on how the rest of the NFL's schedule shakes out.
