CELTICS ANNOUNCE KEY PLAYER WILL HAVE SURGERY IN COMING DAYS

The Boston Celtics won the NBA championship long before taking the court.

Brad Stevens trading for Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday put them over the top, and it didn’t take long before that showed on the court.

Nonetheless, they didn’t need Porzingis as much as they needed Holiday.

As a matter of fact, he missed almost half of the season with injuries, and the Celtics still won over 30 games without him.

Even so, it was nice to see him playing through injury and leaving everything on the court to see his team close things out in the NBA Finals.

So, now that the championship parade is in the history books, the Latvian big man will go under the knife.

As reported by the Celtics on Twitter, Porzingis suffered a torn retinaculum and dislocated posterior tibialis tendon in Game 2 of the NBA Finals.

He’ll undergo surgery in the following days, and the Celtics will provide more updates when they become available.

Landing Porzingis was a bit of overkill for a team that was already stacked.

He made a big impact when healthy, blocking shots and knocking down shots from beyond the arc.

He’s come a long way since his days with the New York Knicks, being way more mature and embracing a lesser role as opposed to being the go-to guy.

Unfortunately, injuries have always stood in his way.

But now that he’s fulfilled his goal and dream of becoming an NBA champion, there’s no need to rush his way back to the court.
